I hope you are all having a great week so far! Homework and information is as follows:
10th grade: Most of you have finished the transcendentalist study guide, please do it for homework. We will go over it in class tomorrow. Since we did not have class yesterday, I am postponing your test on transcendentalism until Monday.
*Don't forget your can of green beans to help feed some local families!! Bring by Friday, por favor!
11th grade: Finish the essay, "When the Negro Was in Vogue," which begins on page 933 and answer questions 1-5 &7. We will have a short test on the Harlem Rennaissance on December 15.
*We will be starting The Great Gatsby after Christmas. Please let me know if you would like me to order a copy for you. If not, please obtain a copy of your own by January 13!
12th grade: Please read "It is a Beauteous Evening" on page 734. Analyze its imagery on the handout given in class and answer questions 1-5 on page 737. We will have a short test on romanticism on December 15.
ALL CLASSES: After our tests on December 15, we will be playing a game to celebrate literacy (and Christmas, of course!) Please bring a wrapped book for this purpose. It can and should be a used book (school appropriate). Talk to me if you have problems getting one and I have one for you.

10th Grade: extended metaphor assignment is due on Monday (1 page)! Also, students are being given the opportunity to rewrite their Bean Trees essays using the corrections made on their papers. If you made a "B" or better, you will receive five points. If you made a "D" or "C," you have the opportunity to make an additional ten points. Corrected papers are also due Monday!
11th Grade: No homework, except to study for vocab. quiz on Monday!!! Extra credit opportunity for any 11th grader who reads this blog! Find the name of the Harlem Renaissance artist responsible for the painting in this post and write a one paragraph biography on this individual.

11th grade: Read about Langston Hughes on page 920-923 of your textbook. We will have a brief quiz on this reading assignment tomorrow. Your vocabulary quiz will be postponed until Monday.
12th: Finish 1984 study guide- we will have our essay test tomorrow!

Week of November 23-24
10th Grade: No homework this week. Bean Trees essays will be returned after Thanksgiving!
11th Grade: Extra credit Think Piece due on Monday (11/23). Crucible in-class essay test will take place on Monday after Thanksgiving. Don't forget to bring your study guide!
12th Grade: Please finish 1984 by Monday, November 30! There will be a quiz on the remaining chapters of the book (this does not include the appendix). In-class essay test on 1984 will be on Wednesday, December 2.
ALL GRADES: Please have your book for the 2nd individual novel assignment by Friday, December 4! Please have the physical copy in class on that date. Beginning that day, I will give you time to read in class and you will receive points for having your novel in class EVERY DAY! 2nd novel assignment is due January 22.

I am starting this blog as a way for parents and students (who may have been absent...or not paying attention) to be able to keep up with what's going on in my classroom.
